The luxury train's story began with George Pullman, the Brooklyn-born entrepreneur who helped reengineer Chicago's sewer system. Pullman struck upon the idea of adding sleeping cars to trains after an uncomfortable night trying to catch Zs in the seat of a train in New York state.
