SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Standard & Poor's Ratings Services on Tuesday affirmed Iceland's long- and short-term foreign currency ratings at BBB-/A-3 but lowered its local currency ratings to BBB/A-3 from BBB+/A-2. "The rating affirmation reflects our view that Iceland's near-term financial outlook has stabilized since the electorate resoundingly rejected legislation at a referendum in early March that would have required Iceland to compensate The Netherlands and the U.K. for their deposit insurance outlays after the failure of Icelandic Internet bank Icesave," said Moritz Kraemer, an S&P credit analyst. S&P removed Iceland's ratings from CreditWatch but the outlook is still negative.
