Some thought about;
First of all NATO is growing out of control.
NATO was born after WW2 opposed to USSR. After 80 years things changed. The USSR no longer exists. In WW2 there was an alliance of 3 countries; Germany Italy and Japan. It did not end well, after some success the alliance loose the war against the rest of the World. That was predictable, what can 3 relatively small countries do against USA and USSR combined? But only, against even Canada...Australia and many other. I dont like the Nazi regime but HEY! This is what happened.
After that mess new alliances emerge. The NATO and the Warsaw Pact. And Europe was cut in half, half under USSR sphere of influence and half under US sphere of influence. Years after years the NATO grows and included some countries once upon a time under the USSR. Ussr went broke in the 90ies. US helped the new Russia with food, there are proof of that. So i think at least from 1945 to 1999 US and Russia are secretly allied. You dont help your enemy from starvation if it is a real enemy!
Many US military bases were built in Europe. And we are here discovering that Americans are thinking; Hey! Those bases cost too much, why do we need them? Other NATO countris do not spend enough for defence.
Well...you built the bases in first place. What can we do about?
Then Americans developed a strange idea, they started to think that europeans are not able to fight. And the US is protecting them for free. After what happened in WW2 and WW1 i dont think europeans are not able to fight but anyway, that1s it.
NATO is an alliance in which if one member is under attack the others will come in play to help it. It is not written anywhere tha everybody has to pay the US for some sort of protection. Bytheway this a Mafia1s style of thinking. If am a Mafia1s boss i tell you: Do you want protection? Pay me, if you are not willing to pay your businesses will have problems.
So now the most likely scenario is that US leaves NATO and become a regional power, and let the rest of the NATO become a new superpower. The US will cope with immigration from Mexico and so on and Europe will stand against Russia and fight Russia if Russia try something against the new NATO. Maybe even invades back Russia and stole all Russia1s natural resources.
Russi knows that it can win a conventional war against Europe. The have far less population, far less industries, far less military power than Europe. Even in a nuclear confrontation i doubt Russia will win. And they know this. They are currently in troubles against Ukraine. What can they do against the whole Europe?
Russia is a small country with a big land. Economically Russia is less than Italy alone.
So...good luck Russia invading Europe.
As for military industrial complex the russian one is at full throttle now, Europe is in relax mode now.
My grandfather always said; When water level reaches your ass you will learn how to swim very quikly ;D
If we put our industrial miliktary compex at full speed you'll see our real capabilities
