Telecom Italia, News Corp heads meet in Greece

MILAN/ATHENS, Sept 7 (Reuters) - News Corp's (NWS.N) Rupert Murdoch was meeting with the head of Telecom Italia (TIT.MI) in Greece on Thursday to discuss a deal to distribute media content in Italy, a person familiar with the meeting said.
Although the talks between Murdoch and Telecom Italia Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera are officially about media content, Telecom Italia did not rule out on Tuesday that they might also concern a share swap agreement.
Italian media reports have speculated that News Corp could buy into Telecom Italia or Olimpia, the holding company that controls Telecom Italia with an 18 percent stake.
Greek police said they had been informed Murdoch, a frequent visitor to the area, was on the Greek island of Zakynthos and usually stayed on his boat.
Murdoch recently collected a new yacht built by Perini Navi, in Viareggio, Italy.
Tronchetti Provera is an avid sailor who participates in regattas on his Kauris III, 30-metre long sail boat.
Spokespeople for the companies declined to comment about the meeting.
The meeting will focus on the distribution of News Corp's content, including Fox Television, movies and European soccer games, on Telecom Italia's broadband services in Italy, France and Germany, a source close to the talks told Reuters last week.
The companies could also extend the agreement to South America, a financial source told Reuters on Tuesday.
