Following the many and often dramatic report on the problems of Roya or Leaf Rust from the Central American producers, the Agricultural Ministry in Nicaragua have announced the start of a program to train 15,000 agronomists and farmers, to take the lead in assisting the countries 45,000 farmers to combat the problem. The announcement is not very specific in terms of the structure or cost of this program, but it does follow official programs that have already been announced by Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras and all indications are that there shall be considerable state assisted efforts put in place in the region, to suppress this very much controllable issue. Thus with the controls coming in early and well ahead of the flowering for the next crop, one might think that the potential damage to this crop and despite many recent scare stories, might after all be limited.
It is a costly exercise to control Roya and can in terms of chemical costs, can add from 5% to 10% to the overall cost of production. Thus with the profitability from sales of the present new crop that is in peak harvest severely decreased by the soft nature of the reference prices of the New York market, it shall prove to be a difficult for many farmers to finance the full controls that shall be necessary to adequately combat the negative effects of Roya. Therefore the evidence of state assistance for these controls throughout the region becomes a very important factor for the Central American coffee farmers, who have a significant battle ahead of them.
The Certified washed arabica coffee stocks held against the New York market increased by 2,590 bags yesterday, to register these stocks at 2,621,834 bags. There was meanwhile a small 61 bags increase in the number of bags pending grading for the exchange, which were registered at 54,087 bags.

insieme al...Coffee...è il mio trade di lungo...anche se ho venduto una parte dopo il salto da 27 a 34...lo faccio per disciplina ma mi aspetto davvero che vada a 37-40 entro aprile
