US papers see an easing in help-wanted ads in June

NEW YORK, July 29 (Reuters) - The number of help-wanted ads
in U.S. newspapers eased in June, a private research group said
on Thursday, suggesting a slight slowing in the pace of U.S.
hiring.
The Conference Board said its gauge measuring help-wanted
ad volume in the United States eased in June to 38 from 39 in
the prior month, and was unchanged from one year ago.
"Help wanted advertising was on a slow upward trend through
February but has now been virtually flat over a four month
period," said Conference Board economist Ken Goldstein.
"Likewise, initial unemployment claims reached a plateau in
March and haven't moved very much since then -- labor demand
will hold up if the economy does," Goldstein said in a
statement.
Analysts have noted that the amount of job advertising now
done online is one of the reasons the help-wanted index may be
subdued.
The Conference Board surveys help-wanted ad volume at 51
newspapers across the country each month.
