NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock futures pointed to a higher open Friday after interventions by the Group of Seven and the Federal Reserve to curb the rise of the yen, efforts to limit the economic damage of the Japanese quake and nuclear crisis.
Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 119 points higher, or 0.8%, at 11830 recently while Standard & Poor's 500 index futures gained 0.8% and Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.7%.
The Group of Seven moved overnight to stem "excess volatility and disorderly movements" in the currency markets after the yen's dramatic swings this week, sending the dollar soaring 2.7% against the Japanese currency. A stronger yen has dealt added pressure to Japan's economy by making its exports more expensive abroad. The intervention is expected to aid Japanese exporters and boost the country's recovery effort, an encouraging thought for global investors.
Friday morning, the Federal Reserve confirmed it is buying dollars against the yen. The dollar kept most of its gains and was up 2.1% to 81.31 versus the yen recently.
The interventions follow a week of tumultuous trading that sent U.S. blue chip stocks into negative territory for the year briefly on Wednesday. The Nasdaq still trades below break-even for the year.
The G7's move drove a 2.7% gain for the Nikkei Stock Average. European markets also rose.
Also under close investor watch Friday, the United Nations Security Council approved a no-fly zone over Libya and authorized all necessary measures to protect civilians. Air attacks against leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi's forces may take place within days.
U.S. stocks rose Thursday, ending three consecutive days of losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 161.29 points, or 1.4%, to 11774.59, its biggest one-day gain in two weeks. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 1.3% and the Nasdaq 100 index added 0.7%.
No major U.S. economic data are scheduled for release Friday.
Among stocks in focus, Cisco rose 1.8% after the company announced its first-ever cash dividend.
Nike shed 7.6% premarket after the athletic-shoe maker's fiscal third-quarter earnings rose 5.2%, but results missed analysts' expectations.
General Mills said it is in exclusive talks with PAI Partners and Sodiaal to buy interests in Yoplait S.A.S. and affiliated companies. General Mills' offer includes a controlling role in the operating company and a 50% interest in the entity which owns Yoplait and related brands.
Intuit said volume for its TurboTax federal tax-return improved this season versus a year ago, helping shares add 1.9% premarket.
Crude futures rose 1.6% to $103 barrel, while gold futures gained 1.3%

la fonetica pugliese è molto simile a quella anglosassone...
