Trading update & capital structure review
Yesterday the company disappointed investors with the latest release of pricing figures. Although the average realised price for Coking coal in 4Q13 has improved from €91 in 3Q13 to €98, thermal coal realised price declined to €55 from €56 in 4Q13. However, the prices agreed for 1Q14 were where disappointment really came in with coking coal average agreed price back down at €91 while 80% of expected thermal coal production in 2014 has received a price of €54. The company has also disappointed investors with three additional announcements: 1) it is reviewing capital structure with “all options available” and hired a Blackstone group; 2) the cancellation of €100m of RCF (hopes of extending did not materialise) and; 3) due to weak coal price as well as change in the long-term coal price outlook (for the worse), the company expects a significant decrease of economically mineable coal reserves. On the positive note the company announced that majority shareholder, BXR, has confirmed that it and its shareholders are prepared to invest new equity capital into a revised and satisfactory capital structure.
There are speculations going around that potential action may just involve capital injection, with Hospodarske Noviny newspaper speculating that the company may dilute existing shareholder by issuing 100m-250m of new shares, citing market participants. At the conference in Prague yesterday CFO said that the company had €825m of debt but did not mention how much cash (at the end of 3Q13 it had €148m cash and then sold OKK with some inventory for total of €95m while on the consolidated level NWR is likely to receive about €85 due to cash at sold OKK). Quotes on the bonds of the company tumbled on the news with the unsecured notes been quoted on the high teens this am.
