Valentine’s Day gift shoppers plan to spend 9.6% more this year than last year, a projected $23.9 billion, including a record $6.2 billion on jewelry, according to a January survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.

  • This year’s most popular Valentine’s Day gifts are candy (56%), greeting cards (40%), flowers (37%), an evening out (31%), and jewelry (22%). Planned spending on jewelry is 51% higher than 2021, and the highest in NRF survey history.

What’s Next: Shoppers expect to spend an average of $175.41 per person on Valentine’s Day gifts, up 6.5% from last year. Three-quarters of consumers said marking the occasion is even more important given the pandemic, NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said.
