J.C. Penney (NYSE:
JCP) says it will close its distribution and customer care center in Wauwatosa, Wis.,
cutting 670 jobs.
JCP says its supply chain network is "oversized relative to its national store footprint," and operations from the Wauwatosa location will be transferred to facilities in Lenexa, Kan., and Columbus, Ohio.
Several retailers have announced rounds of store closures already this year, although the closing of a distribution center is more unusual.
JCP says the distribution center will shut operations on July 1 and the customer care center on Sept. 1.
