Europe’s banks undermine pharma strength

European pharmaceutical and other defensive stocks made progress on Thursday but losses in the banking and mining sectors and concerns about Greece’s fiscal problems left the main indices lower.
Analysts said that pharma and other healthcare stocks were continuing to be boosted by speculation that health reform in the US would not be passed.
