Petrobras pops after Brazilian newspaper Valor Economicoreported the government will pay $14B to the company to settle a dispute about the offshore transfer of rights area.
The newspaper, which did not say how it obtained the information in its report, said the settlement has been discussed with new Pres. Bolsonaro’s transition team.
The $14B is a "good number," says Adeodato Volpi Netto, head of capital markets at Eleven Financial Research, and would "enable the materialization of different scenarios that depended on this definition [of the amount the company will receive]. Many of the company’s investment programs and partnerships depended on an understanding of its ability to work on leverage, cash management."
The dispute over the oil in question and the price of it dates back to 2010, when the Brazilian government granted PBR the right to extract 5B barrels of oil and gas in the offshore Santos Basin.

Brazil's industrial production fell more than expected at an annual rate in November.
On an annual basis, industrial output fell 0.9 percent (+1.1), compared to analyst consensus that expected a 0.4 percent decline.

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Brazil's Infrastructure Minister Tarcisio Freitas said on Tuesday it is possible to privatise or liquidate 100 state-run companies, including their subsidiaries, reflecting the new administration's drive to reduce the size of the state.
Speaking in a radio interview, the minister said also that the government is considering awarding operating licenses for 5,600 kilometres of roads.



SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Petroleo Brasileiro SA is selling up to three series of local unsecured bonds to raise 3 billion reais (£630 million), the Brazilian state-run oil firm said in a securities filing on Tuesday.
The debt will mature in 7 to 10 years, depending on the series, according to a preliminary prospectus related to the offering. Proceeds will be used to explore oilfields in the so-called "transfer-of-rights area".

BRASÍLIA (Reuters) - Apesar da promessa de que o governo começaria a divulgar ainda nesta semana medidas consideradas prioritárias, o Palácio do Planalto encerrou a segunda reunião ministerial sem o cronograma prometido pelo ministro da Casa Civil, Onyx Lorenzoni, e, por ora, sem dar detalhes sobre a proposta de reforma da Previdência, tida como uma das principais para o ajuste das contas públicas do país.

De acordo com fontes ouvidas pela Reuters, a reunião se concentrou nas medidas de enxugamento da máquina e de economia nos ministérios.

SÃO PAULO (Reuters) - O Ibovespa fechou em alta nesta terça-feira e acima de 92 mil pontos pela primeira vez na sua história, após sessão sem tendência única, favorecido pelo avanço das bolsas norte-americanas em meio a expectativas de desfecho benigno nas negociações comerciais entre EUA e China nesta semana.

Índice de referência do mercado acionário brasileiro, o Ibovespa subiu 0,36 por cento, a 91.031,86 pontos, após oscilar da mínima de 91.063,90 pontos à máxima de 92.230,99 pontos. O volume financeiro somou 14,18 milhões de reais.

Dólar termina em baixa ante real com otimismo em relação às negociações comerciais EUA-China





SÃO PAULO (Reuters) - O dólar fechou em baixa ante o real nesta terça-feira, com o mercado otimista com um provável desfecho positivo nas negociações comerciais entre Estados Unidos e China e também com o governo Jair Bolsonaro, que realizou nesta terça-feira uma nova reunião ministerial.

O dólar recuou 0,50 por cento, a 3,7155 reais na venda, depois de ter subido 0,53 por cento na véspera. Durante a sessão, a moeda norte-americana oscilou entre a mínima de 3,7045 reais e a máxima de 3,7435 reais.

“O mercado entrou o ano com um viés otimista com o Brasil... além disso, tem a notícia de que a reforma da Previdência tende a ser até mais agressiva do que a de Temer”, disse o operador de câmbio da corretora H.Commcor Cleber Alessie Machado.
