SAO PAULO--Brazil's industrial production increased in December, only the second expansion in six months, as output of food and drink grew from a month earlier.
Industrial output grew 0.2% in December from November and declined 3.6% from December 2017, Brazilian statistics agency IBGE said Friday. In November, industrial production fell a revised 0.1% from the previous month.
Brazil's weak economy and high unemployment are hitting demand, with consumers holding back on big purchases and companies waiting for more idle capacity to be used before investing in more production, economists said.
