U.S. equity indices have continued to move higher over the past three weeks. Completion of the blow off of U.S. equity indices has yet to be confirmed. However, technicals on equities securities that make up the indices (Up/Down ratio, Bullish Percent Index) continue to show that U.S. equity indices are overbought and near an important intermediate high. Surprising strength has come from individual securities that are rumored to be takeout candidates by hedge funds or private companies (e.g. Weyerhaueser, Temple Inland). Speculative strength in rumored takeover stocks also is a technical sign of a blow off. Strength in these stocks tends to be transient unless the rumors prove to be true. A good example is strength in the steel sector two weeks ago on takeover rumors and the subsequent 10-15% decline when takeover rumors waned and weak fundamentals became apparent (e.g. Nucor)



What’s wrong with this picture: U.S. equity indices are rising while U.S. interest rates are rising, U.S. economic growth is slowing and energy prices (particularly gasoline) are rising? Eventually, these markets will return to their mean. Will U.S. equity indices move lower or will interest rates decline, U.S. economic growth improves and energy prices fall? Weight of the evidence suggests the former. U.S equity markets are vulnerable to a correction. Caveat emptor!

vola s&p500 su base mensile...sticazzzzi...venerdì in intraday...low a 9,30 circa..per chiudere un pelo sopra i 10
