I recenti sviluppi in Grecia e le opinioni negative delle agenzie di rating nei confronti delle banche francesi mi hanno allarmato.
Essendo a conoscenza dell'esposizione di Commerzbank verso la grecia ho scritto all'Investor Relations per sentire come la pensano loro in merito alla questione, e come un evenutale default potrebbe incidere sui loro bilanci.
Questa è l'email che io ho mandato:
Hello, I am aware that Commerzbank is exposed for 2.9 billion euros to Greek debt.
I invested in your LT2 2019 bond, and the recent developments concerning the question of Greek debt are troubling me.
In case there was a Greek default, this would impact on your financial statements?
The 2.9 billion euros of exposure in what percentage affect your business?
I am worried so I look forward to your reply soon.

This will give some background on the Commerzbank figures. Total assets as at 31.03.2011 were € 697 bn and equity
capital was € 30.4 bn.
More importantly the quarterly profit before tax was € 1.14 bn. If Commerzbank had to write down its holdings
of Greek sovereign debt by about half, this would be equivalent to - roughly - the Q1 2011 profit. This would not "break" our bank.
The problem of a Greek default would be how to "ring fence" this to Greece ? If Europe were to allow this, this could have spill on
effects to Portuguese and Irish debt. This scenario therefore seems unlikely to occur as neither the ECB nor most European countries
want this. There will most likely come a solution without Greece defaulting. But having said this, this is of course all very speculative
and I would kindly ask you to treat my comments as such.
