Taoiseach to come under fire over bailout
November 29th, 2010
The Taoiseach and Government will come under fire again later over the European/I-M-F deal to bailout Ireland.
Opposition leaders are expected to use today’s Dáil session to attack Brian Cowen over the deal.
It will be the first opportunity for Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore to have a go at the Taoiseach over the IMF/European bailout.
While Brian Cowen has insisted this is a necessary deal for the country, the Opposition has been far from impressed.
Both the Fine Gael and Labour leaders will question the Taoiseach on the raiding of the National Pension Reserve Fund as part of the deal.
Meanwhile, the country’s newest TD takes his seat in the Dáil today.
Sinn Féin’s Pearse Doherty won the Donegal South West by election last Friday.
The party will have five TDs and could now team up with a couple of independents to form a technical group, giving them status as an opposition grouping for the few weeks left in this Dáil’s life.
