DUBLIN Nov 9 (Reuters) - Irish finance minister Brian Lenihan discussed the need to broaden Ireland's tax base at a meeting with EU Economics Commissioner Olli Rehn but Rehn did not raise the issue of raising corporation tax, Lenihan said.
In remarks recorded on Monday evening following a meeting of Rehn and Lenihan, but broadcast on Tuesday, Lenihan said he believed the Commissioner was "correct in that assessment" that the Irish tax base needed broadening.
Rehn told a press conference on Monday he supported Ireland's plans to cut debt and that market confidence should be restored once details of the four-year strategy were outlined. The plans will be outlined later this month.
