NEW YORK, July 27 (Reuters) - Currency speculators
increased bets against the dollar for the fifth straight week
and cut back sharply on bets against the yen, data from the
Commodity Futures Trading Commission showed on Friday.
The value of the net short U.S. dollar position in the week
to July 24 increased to $26.6 billion from $25.3 billion the
prior week, according to Reuters calculations.
Speculators remained short the Japanese yen <JPY>, though
the number of contracts was trimmed to 92,415 from 126,773
contracts the prior week.
Bets in favor of the Canadian dollar <CAD> hit a record
76,964 contracts, up from 67,272 contracts the previous week.
The aggregate dollar position is derived from the net
positions of International Monetary Market speculators in yen,
euro, British pound, Swiss franc, Canadian and Australian dollar
