CBOT corn rallies to 1-month high on fund buying
CHICAGO, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Chicago Board of Trade corn futures rallied to 1-month highs late on Thursday on aggressive technical fund buying, traders said.
"It was definitely fund buying and there was nothing fundamentally to do this," said Dan Cekander, analyst for FIMAT Futures.
Pit sources estimated the fund buying at between 18,000 and 20,000 lots.
CBOT corn closed 3 to 7-1/4 cents per bushel higher, with March <CH5> up 7-1/4 at $2.08-3/4 per bushel.
"There was an influx of new index fund money coming into the market," a trader said.
Buy-stops were hit when the March contract penetrated shor-term resistance at its 14 and 20-day moving averages and again near the close when the 50 day MA of $2.08 ws broken.
Traders said the corn market had been loaded with speculative short positions which left the market vulnerable to a strong rally like the one that took place on Thursday.
There was no shift in fundamentals that would have triggered the rally in corn futures.
The production last year of a record large U.S. corn crop continues to hang over the market and export news remains a bearish anchor.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Thursday said U.S. corn export sales last week totaled only 430,600 tonnes. That's at the low end of estimates ranging from 400,000 to 700,000 tonnes. Exports overnight also were bearish and included Israel's purchase of 48,000 tonnes of South American corn.
Some traders might have been hesitant to take a strong stance in the market ahead of the release next week of USDA's January crop production and supply/demand reports. The reports will include USDA's final estimate for 2004 U.S. corn production. In December, USDA pegged corn output at a huge 11.7 billion bushels which is above the previous record of 10.1 billion produced in 2003.
Corn futures were near oversold technical levels, which provided some fodder for those with outlooks for a technical bounce. The nine-day relative strength index for March closed Wednesday at 38, which is near the benchmark oversold level of 30.

.... a che quota iniziamo a scaricare le prime bombe ?
se sei carico molla qualcosina , con sti fitusi non si sa mai, vedi falso break al ribasso di qualche giorno ( meno male son riuscito a fillare quella ricopertura sullo short in close altrimenti ero qui a sacramentare in turco
)sul mio personale radar inizio il monitoraggio del cacao , gap antico coperto a NY a 1475 , sia NY che Londra Liffe son in ipervenduto. La cosa che mi fa andar cauto è la pesante esposizione long dei fondi a cot di venerdì scorso.

negativissimi i mk mk, sul pit c'è più volatilità, con l'elettronico c'è la questione delle precedenze poi gli asterischi etc etc etc tutto mummificato. Sull'elettron piazzi un ordine haisberg e paralizzi tutto, sul pit non puoi fare il furbo e farti eseguire a tranche di 500 pezzi quando ti interessano volumi per 50.000. Secondo me vogliono anestetizzare anche le commodity. Vabbe se la canteranno e suoneranno tra loro

Niente da fare .... il porko mi stà dando contro ... oggi +2,46% ... si sono andati a toccare il limit up e poi hanno ripegato leggermente. 
Con il porko pure la pancetta di maiale ed i bovini in grande spolvero ... deve essere uscita qualche news o insiders.
Probabilmente i tempi non sono ancora maturi e vogliono farsi ancora una gamba al rialzo ... questo punto lascio che si sfoghino ed incrementerò da più in alto, se incremento però questa volta lo faccio sul giugno (LHM5).
