Unemployment Rate At 15.8% in April 2011



The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said that the unemployment rate in April 2011 was 15.8% compared to 11.9% in April 2010 and 16.2% in March 2011.

The number of employed amounted to 4,183,332 persons while the number of unemployed amounted to 786,459 and the number of inactive to 4,365,072, according to ELSTAT.

The number of employed decreased by 240,567 persons compared with April 2010 (a 5.4% rate of decrease) and by 1,993 persons compared with March 2011 (a 0.05% rate of decrease).

Unemployed increased by 207,736 persons (a 35.9% rate of increase) compared with April 2010 and decreased by 24,881 persons compared with March 2011 (a 3.1% rate of decrease).

ASE Attempts To React, Led By Banks



The General Index of ASE moves into positive territory on thin turnover on Tuesday, as the domestic market still focuses on the upcoming European Union Summit on Thursday.

Pegasus Securities expects the trading to move in an environment of low turnover and nervous fluctuations, as the news flow has not changed substantially. The market show encouraging signs during the last two sessions, but lacked the endurance to end on positive grounds.

The market maintains a waiting stance ahead of the very crucial European Union Summit, with all expectations invested on a comprehensive solution to the European debt crisis, said Pegasus.

Technically, Pegasus expects the GI to trade in the 1,200 - 1,165 units, which consist today΄s 2nd resistance and the GI΄s 14-year low levels respectively.

On the board, the General Index is at 1,186.94 units with profits of 1.30%. The turnover stands at €21 million, while a total amount of 74 shares rise, 31 decline and 34 remain unchanged.

Banks lead the rise with gains of 2.70%, at 819.51 units. Bank of Cyprus jumps by 6.37%, while Piraeus Bank, National Bank and Marfin Popular Bank rise by 2.59%, 2.38% and 2.04% respectively.

Greece sold €1.625 billion of 13-week treasury bills with uniform yield of 4.58% at an auction on Tuesday.

The amount offered was €1.25 billion and the auction was covered 3.08 times

The amount sold includes a 30% non-competitive tranche.

(AGI) Francoforte - I governi dell'Eurozona devono prevenire un default della Grecia, anche selettivo. Lo ha detto il presidente della Banca centrale europea, Jean-Claude Trichet, in un'intervista al quotidiano slovacco Hospodarske Noviny. "Un evento di credito, un default, selettivo o meno, deve essere evitato", ha detto Trichet a due giorni dal vertice straordinario dei leader europei in programma giovedi' .
