UPDATE 1-OTE to take 130 million euro pension charge
ATHENS, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Greek group OTE (OTEr.AT), southeast Europe's biggest telecom, said on Monday it will take a 130 million euro ($177 million) charge on 2010 earnings to settle a government claim over pension liabilities.
The charge will exacerbate a profit slide at OTE, already struggling to cope with cutthroat competition and severe recession in its home market.
Greece's cash-strapped government said in January 2010 it would claim more than 100 million euros from OTE to plug a hole in public finances caused by the company's 2005-06 voluntary pension scheme.
OTE, which disputes the claim, said on Monday it had to take a charge against it because of accounting rules.
