The PM's lobbying efforts on behalf of the Greek economy show the blooming Israeli-Greek ties in wake of deteriorating relations with Turkey.
Greece, hoping that a new, multi-billion dollar economic-rescue plan will be approved by the EU and the International Monetary Fund, has found a surprising new advocate: Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
For the second day in a row, Netanyahu spoke out Thursday during a high-level diplomatic meeting on behalf of economic assistance to Greece. According to Netanyahu’s office, the Prime Minister, during his meeting with visiting French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe, called on the EU countries to help Greece in its necessary economic-recovery plan.
Netanyahu, who has struck up a close relationship with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, whom he speaks to regularly, praised the Greek government’s handling of the economic crisis.
According to a statement issued from the PMO, Netanyahu expressed his confidence that the Greek people will recover from the current crisis, and that the Greek economy will again prosper.
Netanyahu articulated similar sentiments on Wednesday during a meeting he had with visiting Republican US Senator Mark Kirk from Illinois, and is using his reputation as a leader with a good grasp of economic matters to encourage Israel’s friends to be supportive of the Greek efforts.
The Prime Minister’s lobbying efforts on behalf of the Greek economy is the latest manifestation of the blooming of Israeli-Greek ties that has come in the wake of the deterioration of Israeli-Turkish relations.
Indeed, Papandreou, who has dramatically improved Athens’s policies toward Israel, was the first Greek prime minister to visit Israel in 18 years last summer, and Netanyahu reciprocated three weeks later with the first-ever visit to Greece by a sitting Israeli prime minister.
Israel is encouraging both Greece and Cyprus – the latter, another country with whom ties have improved as a result of the dramatic deterioration of ties with Turkey – to act to prevent the launch of a flotilla of ships from their ports later this month to the Gaza Strip

non credo che ci siano problemi per la maggioranza; quello che quasi sicuramente mancherà e che l'eurogruppo aveva fortemente richiesto è il coinvolgimento di altre forze politiche a supporto del piano di austerità.

L'abbraccio tra Papandreou (destra) e Junker MILANO - I paesi dell'Unione europea troveranno l'accordo sul nuovo piano di aiuti per la Grecia. Lo ha annunciato a Lussemburgo il presidente dell'Eurogruppo Jean-Claude Juncker, dopo aver incontrato il premier greco George Papandreou. «Le banche private - ha aggiunto Junker - interverranno su base volontaria».
LA NUOVA TRANCHE - Il versamento della nuova tranche di finanziamenti alla Grecia è previsto per luglio, in seguito a ulteriori colloqui, secondo quanto comunicano in una nota congiunta gli ispettori di Ue, Fmi e Bce, che hanno concluso venerdì la loro missione ad Atene. L'importo del versamento dovrebbe essere pari a 12 miliardi di euro circa
FONDO PRIVATIZZAZIONI - «Prevedo che l'Eurogruppo concordi sulla concessione di nuovi fondi in base a precise condizioni» ha detto il presidente dell'Eurogruppo in una conferenza stampa. «Tra le condizioni c'è quella di un accordo con il settore privato su base volontaria. Ho appreso con soddisfazione che la Grecia è pronta a creare un fondo per le privatizzazioni».
FARE DI PIU' - La Grecia ha fatto «generali e significativi progressi in particolare nel risanamento dei conti pubblici», ma non basta. «È necessario che siano rinvigorite le riforme tanto di bilancio quanto una più generale e strutturale allo scopo di ridurre il deficit» e «migliorare il clima» per «aprire la strada ad un recupero sostenibile dell'economia», hanno scritto ancora gli esperti della cosiddetta troika (Commissione europea, Bce e Fmi) presentando il rapporto sulla quarta missione di revisione in Grecia. Nella nota aggiungono di «aspettarsi una stabilizzazione dell'economia attorno alla fine dell'anno»

Prima boccata di ossigeno per la Grecia, ma è solo l'inizio di un lungo percorso.
Il rilascio della Quinta Tranche, subordinata all'approvazione del pacchetto di misure fiscali e di privatizzazioni da parte del Parlamento di Atene, ha ottenuto il via libera dalla Troika.
Il rimbalzo è stato notevole, specie sugli indici azionari in forte sofferenza.
I nostri titoli di stato recuperano, ma il potenziale è ancora tutto da scoprire.
In scia tutti i periferici guadagnano posizioni ad eccezione del Portogallo che si trova impegnato sul finale di una difficile campagna elettorale.

buongiorno a tutti tornato dal lavoro tommy io faccio l'infermiere methos sono d'accordo la strada sara' ancora irta la salita dura pero' sono piu' fiducioso nel senso che l'europa non si potra' piu' sputtanare o si cambia adesso non solo grecia pure tutti gli altri o altrimenti ritorneremo come una volta

Minister, MPs and party members to get chance to debate new measures next week
In a bid to quell the unrest within PASOK, the government plans to inform its party members and MPs at the beginning of next week about the measures it wants to adopt in order to bring public finances under control and to convince the EU and the IMF to lend Greece more money.
Sources said yesterday that an informal cabinet meeting will take place on Monday so minister can discuss the midterm fiscal plan. On Tuesday, Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou will set out the details of the scheme for MPs. This discussion will be followed by a meeting of PASOK’s political council.
Government sources said that Prime Minister George Papandreou and his aides want MPs and party members to have a chance to express their opinions before the bill goes to Parliament. PASOK has a six-seat majority but cannot risk a rebellion by its own MPs. “If there is no analytical discussion, I will not vote,” said PASOK deputy Thomas Robopoulos.
Concerns about a backlash from Socialist lawmakers have been exacerbated by a letter that 16 PASOK MPs sent to Papandreou on Thursday. They urged him to allow ample time for the measures to be debated and questioned why the government had not provided an assessment of what had gone wrong over the past year.
When the EU-IMF memorandum was approved by Parliament last May, the government received the backing of the Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) but its leader, Giorgos Karatzaferis, said on Friday that the right-wing party would not back the latest set of measures. “We won’t vote for the midterm plan because we already gave them one chance and they wasted it,” he said.
