Obbligazioni societarie HIGH YIELD e oltre, verso frontiere inesplorate - Vol. 2

UPDATE 2-Egypt's urban inflation accelerates to 10.5% in March
10/04/2022 15:52 - RSF
(Adds core inflation)
By Patrick Werr
April 10 (Reuters) - Egypt's annual urban consumer price inflation accelerated in March to 10.5%, its highest in nearly three years and faster than analysts had expected, data from the state statistics agency CAPMAS showed on Sunday.

The inflation figure, up from 8.8% in February, was greater than a median forecast of 10% in a Reuters poll of 14 analysts.

The price increases were caused in part by commodity shortages after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, sending inflation above the central bank's 5-9% target and its 9.25% overnight lending rate.

Some analysts expect inflation to increase by even more in the months ahead.

Core inflation, which strips out volatile items such as food, jumped to 10.1% year-on-year in March from 7.2% in February, the central bank said on Sunday, its highest since June 2018.

"The rise in inflation trends is widely expected and will peak by August 2022, after which it will start to normalise," said Radwa El Swaify of Pharos Securities Brokerage.

CI Capital's Sara Saada, meanwhile, said the government was expected to increase fuel prices this month.

"Accordingly, we expect monthly inflation to peak in April to record annual inflation between 12.5-13%, which reflects higher petroleum products prices," she said.

Naeem Research said the increase was largely attributable to higher commodity prices and the devaluation of the currency on March 21.

"With the full impacts of the Egyptian pound depreciation (of 15% versus the dollar) expected to filter down into the economy, we expect inflation to rise further in April," it said in a note.

Tunisia to compensate revolution's dead and wounded - president
10/04/2022 04:06 - RSF
TUNIS, April 10 (Reuters) - Tunisian President Kais Saied, facing political and economic crisis and accusations he took power in a coup, announced compensation on Sunday for the families of those killed and wounded in the 2011 revolution that brought democracy to the country.

Saied last month dissolved parliament, imposing one-man rule after governing by decree since the summer. He has said he was trying to save the north African country from collapse.

The Tunisian dinar has fallen to three-year lows and a delegation is to go to Washington this month to seek a deal with the International Monetary Fund (news)

Saied's decree on Saturday approves compensation for the families of "martyrs" and police and army killed and wounded defending the country from what he called "terrorist attacks" in the years after the revolution that sparked the Arab uprisings around the region.

Dozens of youths were killed and hundreds injured during an uprising against the rule of then-president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011.

Saied has promised to uphold rights and freedoms won in the revolution, but his critics say his actions, which also include replacing a body that guaranteed judicial independence, show he is determined to cement one-man rule.

Tunisians protesters accuse president of 'failed dictatorship'

TUNIS, April 10 (Reuters) - Tunisians on Sunday protested against President Kais Saied, accusing him of imposing one-man rule in the North African country after he dissolved parliament last month.

A political crisis in the country intensified last month when more than half of the members of parliament held an online session to revoke Saied's decrees.

"We are facing a failed dictatorship that is leading the country to an economic disaster.. We will continue to protest in the streets until a coup is forced to reverse its decisions," Chaima Issa, an activist, said.

Many members of parliament participated in the protest on Sunday, which took place with a heavy presence of anti-riot police. Protesters chanted: "The people want to overthrow the coup."
"We will continue to resist the coup and we will not retreat. We will not accept this dictatorship," Samira Chaouchi, one of two deputy speakers of parliament, said.

After last month's online session, which Saied dissolved, anti-terrorism police summoned the main opposition figure Rached Ghannouchi and other lawmakers for questioning, prompting criticism from abroad as well as at home.

Ghannouchi, who is the parliament's speaker and head of Islamist Ennahda party, said other virtual sessions would be convened.

A delegation from the European Parliament will visit Tunisia on Monday to urge the return of the democracy established after the 2011 revolution that ended the autocratic rule of the late President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

Saied, took control of executive power in the middle of last year and has ruled by decree, which his opponents describe as a coup.

He has rejected his opponents accusations and said he would hold talks on political reforms, but that "traitors and thieves" would not participate.

Saied has previously said he would form a committee to rewrite the constitution, put it to a referendum in July and then hold parliamentary elections in December.

The country's two main parties Ennahda and Free Constitutional, which are bitterly opposed, have both said they will oppose those plans.

31/03/2022 14:15 - MF-DJ
