Pfizer Recalls IV Antibiotics, Nausea Medications-Reuters
Thursday, 3 Jun 2010 06:14pm EDT
Reuters reported that Pfizer said it is recalling two intravenous antibiotics and an anti-nausea medication after floating matter was discovered at the plant where they are manufactured. Pfizer is recalling the antibiotics metronidazole and ciprofloxacin and its drug, ondansetron, used to treat nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy or surgery. The products are supplied in plastic IV bags. The Company said non-sterile products administered intravenously could result in infections, which could be fatal, especially in patients with weak immune systems. So far it has received no customer reports of quality problems, but it is closely monitoring its patient database for any safety concerns. The products are manufactured by Claris Lifesciences and distributed under a nonexclusive license in the United States by Pfizer
