Democrats push $787 billion stimulus to brink of passage despite wall of GOP opposition WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a major victory for President Barack Obama, Democrats muscled a huge, $787 billion stimulus bill to the brink of final passage Friday night in hopes of combating the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Republican opposition was nearly unanimous.
The vote in the House was 246-183 for the package of tax cuts and federal spending that Obama made the centerpiece of his plan for economic recovery.The Senate was following suit in a roll call that was without suspense but extended into the night. That was to allow time for Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown to fly back from Ohio, where his mother died earlier in the week. His was the decisive 60th vote for the bill.
Obama is expected to sign the bill soon.
Supporters said the measure would save or create 3.5 million jobs. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer conceded there was no guarantee, but he said that "millions and millions and millions of people will be helped, as they have lost their jobs and can't put food on the table of their families."

Stocks fall as investors crave more details on rescue plans; Dow hits another '09 low NEW YORK (AP) -- Investors sent Washington a message this week: They won't commit to stocks until the government commits to a plan.Stocks ended lower Friday, pushing the Dow Jones industrial average to its lowest close since last November and leaving it with a weekly decline of 5.2 percent.
The gears are moving in Washington. On Friday, the White House said President Obama will outline steps to stem home foreclosures next Wednesday, and the House passed a $787 billion economic stimulus bill.Wall Street is focused, though, on lingering uncertainties. The stimulus package -- too big for some, too small for others -- is far from proving itself effective in reviving the economy. Investors also hesitated to get too excited about the upcoming announcement on preventing home foreclosures, after their hopes got dashed earlier in the week.
The bulk of the market's decline this week came Tuesday, when U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said he would assess banks' financial health and remove their toxic assets with the help of the private sector -- but provided few details about how the process would work.
"Until we get this clarity, I think it's just stop and go. I don't think we collapse from here, but I don't think we go much higher," said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at the brokerage house Avalon Partners Inc.
It's possible some clues will emerge from the meeting of Group of Seven finance ministers. Officials from leading industrial nations are discussing new financial markets rules, concerns about protectionist measures in stimulus plans, and the effect of the financial crisis on poorer countries. But few analysts anticipate major breakthroughs in the group's report Saturday.

all'asta di oggi su 6 miliardi offerti del suo bund decennale
gennaio 2019 con cedola 3,75% solo 4,209 miliardi.
Lo comunica la Bundesbank aggiungendo che si aver trattenuto
presso di se i rimanenti 1,791 mld.
All'asta è risulato un rapporto domanda/offerta di 1,2
contro l'1,3 della scorsa asta a inizio gennaio, mentre il
rendimento è salito al 3,28% da 3,12%.

Giorno ma scusate che tipo di messaggio fa passare detto da lui che dovrebbe garantire la bontà delle dichiarazioni delle banche fa molto pensare che BDI non serve a una mazza
