US GDP growth in Q2 at 2.1%
The gross domestic product (GDP) of the United States rose 2.1% year over year in the second trimester of 2023, the Bureau of Economic Analysis announced in its second estimate report on Wednesday. The reading was lower compared to 2.4% registered in the first estimate.
"The updated estimates primarily reflected downward revisions to private inventory investment and nonresidential fixed investment that were partly offset by an upward revision to state and local government spending," the report read.
The price index for gross domestic purchases gained 1.7%, a downward revision of 0.2 percentage points from the primary estimate. The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index added 2.5%, a downward revision of 0.1 percentage points. Excluding food and energy prices, the PCE price index saw a 3.7% incline, down 0.1 percentage point in comparison to the first estimate.
