Greek govt debt to fall to 98 pct by 2020 -IIF
LONDON | Thu Aug 4, 2011 2:21am EDT
LONDON Aug 4 (Reuters) - Greece's government debt will drop to 98 percent of GDP by the end of 2020 from 142 percent at the end of last year after taking into account the impact of the contribution of banks to its rescue plan, the leading bank lobby group said.
Greece's debt will fall to 122 percent of GDP by 2015, according to forecasts by the Institute of International Finance (IIF), the body which led negotiations over private creditor involvement in a second Greek bailout which was sealed last month.
That level of debt is net of financial assets, such as the cash buffers, bank recapitalization funds and collateral and escrow account linked to the bond exchanges plan agreed by the private sector last month.
That compares to a forecast by the IMF that debt will drop to 124 percent by 2020, released in early July, prior to the agreement, the IIF said.
