PM Papandreou holds talks with economist Roubini

09. December 2010. | 11:54

U.S. based Economist Nouriel Roubini expressed congratulations to Prime Minister George Papandreou and the government regarding the handling of the crisis, during the meeting they had at the Maximos Mansion, reports said.
According to the same reports, Rubini termed as necessary all that the government is doing for the exit from the crisis, regardless of whether he has different views.
In this framework, the economist reiterated the position that he has expressed on the handling of the crisis that Greece is experiencing, on some kind of restructuring of the country's debt.
However, according to the same reports, the reply to Roubini was that the extension of the period for the repayment of the Greek loan is adequate.
The same sources stressed the wider consequences that a possible restructuring of the debt of one of its member-states would would have in the Eurozone.

Greek Stocks Move Higher

The Greek market moves higher on Thursday, aligned with the upward trend of the European markets, keeping a safe distance from 1,500 units.

“The market is likely to consolidate today”, Eurobank Securities says in its morning report. “Headlines focus on the proposed changes in labour/tax/state-owned firms that the government is pushing through within its structural reforms program. The latter is equally important with achieving fiscal targets as regards the successful implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding with the European Union/International Monetary Fund and the smooth disbursement of the loan instalments to Greece.”

It would be ideal, if the General Index would move mildly upwards on an increased turnover, according to Pegasus Securities.

Across, the board, the General Index is at 1,539.3 units, up 1.04%, on a turnover of 44 million euro. Banks Index moves up by 0.58% (earlier 1.93%). 92 shares rise, 46 decline and 66 remain unchanged.

National Bank of Greece and Eurobank rise by 0.70% and 2.26% respectively, Coca-Cola 3E moves up by 2.81%, while Public Power Corporation declines by -1.71%.

No Foreign Constructors For PV Park Of Megalopoli

Public Power Corporation’s and PPC Renewables’ officials had set high goals, describing Megalopoli’s photovoltaic park as the biggest photovoltaic project in Europe, expecting more than 20 competitive tenders. Their expectations didn’t come true as no foreign company did bid for the project. This means that all four bids competing for the construction of the 50MW capacity photovoltaic park, come only from domestic construction groups.

More specifically, bids are submitted by Terna, J&P-AVAX Martifer, Ellaktor Biosar and Intrakat MCC. Ellaktor uses Suntech’s technology, while the rest of them use Yingli’s technology.

According to market sources, a fierce battle is expected as all four bids appear to be competitive, while the absence of foreign bids is justified by three main reasons:

First of all, when the project was announced in 2007, it had been reported as one of the world’s three greatest projects, but not anymore, due to long delays. At the moment, many similar or even greater projects are on process in Europe and USA committing a large amount of foreign constructors’ capacity. This led to their decision not to enter the Greek market.

Secondly, competition announcement, specifications, and standards documents were only in Greek, deterring foreign companies, which didn’t bother to even translate them.

Thirdly, the country risk factor has made foreign companies’ presence in Greece extremely unaffordable.

Under the contract, the project has to be delivered 100% completed and the contract provides a five-year maintenance, as well as the construction of a substation, the supply of transformers, panels and inverters etc.

The photovoltaic park in Megalopoli is expected to be operative within 12 months from the commencement of works.

However, there had been developments regarding the photovoltaic park of Athens International Airport. The project with a planned capacity of 8 MW has been assigned to Ellaktor Biosar.
