German industry lobby wants Greek debt restructured now
BERLIN, Jan 21 (Reuters) - The head of Germany's main industry confederation has called for the immediate restructuring of Greece's sovereign debt to end a "counterproductive" debate that seeks to delay the inevitable.
Hans-Peter Keitel, who heads industry association BDI and often advises Chancellor Angela Merkel on economic issues, told business daily Handelsblatt that it was time for the euro zone to find a lasting solution before the market found one for it.
"This can only be a measured debt restructuring. Greek sovereign bondholders know this and have long since priced in a haircut," he said in an interview.
"Best begin the restructuring today rather than tomorrow."
