Fourteen institutional investors, including a unit of BlackRock Inc., said Monday that the estate of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. has offered to pay more than $2 billion to settle a suit over the defunct bank’s failure to repurchase dud mortgages that it sold to investors before the financial crisis.
Investors that bought residential mortgage-backed securities from Lehman were left holding the bag in 2008 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Questa notizia, già riportata ieri da altra fonte, non appare buona.
Infatti l'offerta di 2 miliardi di dollari da parte di LBHI per chiudere una annosa partita ancora aperta contro ben 14 investitori istituzionali può sembrare, ad un lettore superficiale, una bella batosta nell'ottica di ulteriori distribuzioni.
Invece, in linea teorica, potrebbe essere un vantaggio per gli obbligazionisti Lehman Brothers in quanto potrebbe liberare ( il condizionale è d'obbligo ) un importo ben maggiore messo eventualmente a riserva per tale vertenza.
Naturalmente mi riservo di cercare in rete ulteriori notizie che potrebbero confermare o meno questo aspetto della questione.

Infatti l'offerta di 2 miliardi di dollari da parte di LBHI per chiudere una annosa partita ancora aperta contro ben 14 investitori istituzionali può sembrare, ad un lettore superficiale, una bella batosta nell'ottica di ulteriori distribuzioni.

Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. kicked off a trial Monday against Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, claiming it suffered unnecessary losses of about $115 million when FHLB breached a trading agreement and undervalued numerous interest rate swaps that went belly up after the investment bank collapsed in 2008.
In opening arguments, Lehman attorney Ralph Miller of Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP said that FHLB did not act reasonably and in good faith when it terminated about 350 swaps and derivative transactions on Sept. 18, 2008.

Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. is floating a settlement that would pay at least $1 billion to institutional investors holding debt tied to soured mortgage loans, as the failed investment bank looks to clear one of the last major hurdles in winding down its affairs more than eight years after filing for bankruptcy.
Lawyers for Lehman are asking a bankruptcy judge in New York to set an October trial to determine the value of the claims. Investors would be in line to get a percentage of what the judge determines the final claims are worth based on Lehman’s approved chapter 11 repayment plan.
