Turkey's lira slips to fresh record low
Oggi 08:19 - RSF
LONDON, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Turkey's lira hit a fresh record low of 18.85 against the dollar
in early trade on Monday as a strong greenback and geopolitical risks weighed on the currency.

Emerging market currencies had come under broad pressure after the dollar rallied sharply on Friday in the wake of a strong U.S. jobs report, suggesting the Federal Reserve could stay hawkish for longer. [FRX/]
Indications that the United States would push for a harder line on sanctions enforcement also added to the pressure after Washington warned Ankara about the export to Russia of chemicals, microchips and other products that can be used in Moscow's war effort in Ukraine.

Markets were also watching for the impact of a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in central Turkey and northwest Syria on Monday, which killed about 300 people and injuring hundreds as buildings collapsed across the region.

By 0700 GMT, the lira had clawed back losses to trade flat.

Turkey's lira last hit a record low on Dec. 26 when it sank to 18.844 to the dollar. The currency has weakened nearly 1% since the start of the year.

Ceyhan oil terminal halts ops after Turkey quake -shipping agency
Oggi 09:02 - RSF
ISTANBUL, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Operations at Turkey's oil terminal in Ceyhan halted after a major earthquake struck nearby early on Monday, the Tribeca shipping agency said, adding that an emergency meeting will take place on the issue.

Turkey's pipeline operator BOTAS said there were no damages on main pipelines.

In a notice, Tribeca said ports in southeastern Turkey are affected by the quake and that delays in operations are reported.

UPDATE 1-Turkey oil pipelines undamaged, flows continue after quake -official
Oggi 09:55 - RSF
(Adds suspension of terminal operations)
ANKARA, Feb 6 (Reuters) - There is no damage to the Kerkuk-Ceyhan pipeline carrying oil from Iraq to Turkey, or to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, and oil flows are continuing on both after a major earthquake hit Turkey, an energy official told Reuters on Monday.

However, operations at the Ceyhan oil terminal in southern Turkey were suspended, the Tribeca shipping agency said, adding that an emergency meeting was being held on the issue.

The eastern Mediterranean terminal is some 155 km (96 miles) from the area of the quake's epicenter.

The magnitude 7.8 quake struck southern Turkey and northwest Syria early on Monday, killing more than 500 people and injuring hundreds as buildings collapsed across the region, triggering searches for survivors in the rubble.

Earlier state pipeline operator BOTAS said natural gas flows were halted to Gaziantep, Hatay and Kahramanmaras provinces and some other districts as a result of damage to a gas transmission line.
