Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio says the government has no plans to set up an automatic stabilization mechanism that lowers the budget deficit if economic growth does not reach the targets, reports Reuters.
Economic Minister Giovanni Tria said this weekend that an automatic stabilizer would be set up in the budget that reduces spending if growth is weaker than forecast.
"We currently have no plans for automatic stabilizers," said Luigi Di Maio to journalists on Wednesday. However, he added that spending could be lowered later if growth is weaker than expected.
Bloomberg News reports further Luigi Di Maio should have said budget details will be handed over to Parliament in the coming hours.
