Revenues grow at IKA and OAEE

EU, IMF and ECB representatives commend Labor Ministry for progress on implemention of memorandum
The representatives of Greece’s foreign creditors, the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, were reportedly impressed during their visit to the Labor Ministry yesterday, as they learned that Social Security Foundation (IKA) revenues had increased 1.8 percent while those of the Organization for the Self-Employed (OAEE) had risen 6 percent.
Minister Andreas Loverdos attributed this rather small but significant rise in revenues to the activation of monitoring mechanisms and stressed his satisfaction regarding the data on pharmaceutical expenditure.
At IKA spending on pharmaceuticals declined by 25.79 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2009, while at OAEE it contracted by 13.94 percent year-on-year. May data for the Agricultural Insurance Organization (OGA) showed its pharmaceutical expenditure dropped by 3.32 percent.
The above data, as well as regulations on labor issues which came ahead of schedule, led the EC, IMF and ECB officials to praise the Labor Ministry’s contribution in implementing the memorandum that Greece signed with its creditors.
Immediately after his meeting with the visiting experts, Loverdos spoke of absolute agreement between the two sides on what the memorandum provides for, as well as the ministry’s policies and the legislative interventions.
The meeting came after the foreign representatives visited IKA, OAEE and auxiliary social security funds. After these inspections, the consensus was that the auxiliary funds should stick to the timetable dictated by the new law regarding the social security system. As a result, actuarial studies will have to start in the fall so that their conclusions will be ready come out by next spring.
Loverdos reiterated that, apart from the Geniki Bank fund, there are no problems with other auxiliary funds. He did, however, appear reserved about the results of the actuarial studies that will determine the extent of the new social security regulations and stressed that the actuarial study based on the new conditions resulting from the social security reform will be completed in early October by the National Actuarial Authority.

A smaller state sector

The president of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), Dimitris Daskalopoulos, also met with the troika and expressed his view that the economy depends on the decisive promotion of planned structural changes to return to growth. On the occasion of the foreign experts’ visit to SEV yesterday, Daskalopoulos said that a key condition for that is the reduction of state interventionism, public spending and the size of the state itself.

Furniture industry declining


The declining course of the furniture industry in Greece continued in the first five months of this year, although losses are smaller compared to last year. Hellenic Statistical Authority data indicate that production volumes declined by 8.8 percent in the January-May 2010 period from the same period last year, after a drop of 26.5 percent for the whole of 2009 compared with 2008. However, in May alone the decline was 35 percent lower than the same month five years earlier.

Hospitals start to tighten belts

Hospitals’ debts to their suppliers have soared by 1.2 billion euros since the start of the year, official Health Ministry figures have shown.
Monthly spending on pharmaceuticals and related products came to 179.4 million euros in the January-June period, a reduction of 17.3 percent from the same period in 2009 and 6 percent from 2007. Only a small amount of this money has been paid.
In this context, the ministry has issued clear directions to hospital administrators for the systematic recording of money owed to all healthcare facilities by social security funds, which amounts to some 80 percent of expenses. It also asked for debts covering insured members to be quickly paid by social security funds, as well as the biggest possible reduction of public hospitals’ deficits for 2010.
In the meeting that Health and Social Solidarity General Secretary Nikos Polyzos had yesterday with the representatives of the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund regarding the analysis of the health sector’s finances, he repeated the commitment made by the ministry that “the deficit of public hospitals will not be allowed to reach the levels of previous years again.”
Health Ministry estimates put this year’s expected deficit at 400 million euros, from 1 billion last year.

Greece’s Civil Servant Number At 768.009



The number of the civil servants in Greece comes at 768.009, an official countdown showed. The data released by ministers of Finance and Interior showed that four out of ten employees have university education, almost one third are aged between 40-50 years, while rates for men and women are at 54% and 46% respectively.

These data will be used to establish a single payment authority, while in autumn a new countdown, this time for employees in public enterprises, will be made.

All these data will be used to accelerate the merger of public organisations.

Eh lo sò che volo alto .....più che altro sono speranze ......pensa che parlavo con un bancario e prospettando un unione europea mi ha detto senza mezzi termini che lui non la ritien possibile ....abbamo troppo identita nazionali e all'interno troppe identità locali e i nazionalismi e le lotte di quartiere sono troppo forti e sinceramnete pure io la penso così

L'Europa è sempre stata terreno di scontro da centinaia d'anni, è inutile negarlo. Le prime formazioni nazionali, sorte qualche centinaio d'anni dopo il disfacimento dell'Impero Romano, sono visibili ancora oggi.
A partire dal risveglio del 1800 hanno preso forma tanti nazionalismi che presto, in parte, si sono trasformati in dottrine totalitarie.
Le culture sono tante, così pure le lingue e i sentimenti religiosi.
Ma sotto questo coacervo c'è un sentire comune, una diversità che rende l'Europa riconoscibile e diversa dall'Asia o dalle Americhe.
L'onda lunga della storia attraversa le nostre vite e ne plasma le idee: credo anch'io che la strada è lunga, ma a partire dal secondo dopoguerra ci siamo incamminati... quando facciamo riferimento a periodi storici analizziamo le vicende attraverso l'arco dei secoli.
C'è tempo.
