Greece΄s Troika Inspectors To Return To Athens Wednesday
LONDON (Dow Jones)--Officials from the European Union, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank are expected to return to Athens on Wednesday, a senior Greek official said Tuesday.
"They will come after parliament ratifies the new property tax," the official said. "Unless something unexpected takes place they should be here tomorrow."
Talks between the Greek government and the so called Troika broke off earlier this month when Athens refused to take more austerity measures to bridge a revenue gap.
But under the threat that Greece won΄t get the next slice of a bailout loan, the government adopted a series of cutbacks that include lower salaries and pensions and layoffs in the public sector.
The loan slice of EUR8 billion is a must if the government is to pay its bills, since it only has enough money to see it through until the middle of next month.
Parliament will vote on the new property tax this evening.
