UniCredit Bank Austria Nine-month Profit Plunges On One-time Charges

(RTTNews) - UniCredit Bank Austria AG reported Monday a steep fall in its profit for its nine months hurt by one-time charges in the period. Profit attributable to the owners of Bank Austria decreased to 4.5 million euros from 724 million euros last year, hurt by a goodwill impairment charge of 705 million euros relating to the banking subsidiaries in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, compared to 170 million euros in the year ago-quarter.
Excluding one-time items, profit attributable to the owners came down 18 percent to 741 million euros from 908 million euros in 2010.
Net interest almost stayed flat year over year, with a 3 million decrease to 3.376 billion from 3.379 billion in the previous year.
Bank Austria's CEO, Willibald Cernko commented, "A good operating performance has enabled us to report a net profit for the first nine months, despite exceptional charges."
