The French Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up by 4.8% on an annual basis in August, a bit more than expected, the country's statistical office INSEE said in a preliminary report published on Thursday. The figure grew slightly compared to 4.3% registered in July.
The report predicted that August will see a recovery in the prices of energy, manufactured goods, and fresh food and a decline in the prices of services.
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) on all items advanced by 5.7% year-on-year, an increase compared to July's figure of 5.1%.
