LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Negotiations to take control of Greek telecommunications company Wind Hellas are continuing past the Thursday deadline set by the company.
In a statement late Thursday, the company said discussions with creditor groups to select a preferred bidder were continuing and a conclusion was expected in the "near term."
Wind Hellas had received a number of revised offers which were under consideration, it said. Six bidders had submitted binding offers by a Sept. 15 deadline and the timing to select a winner was tight, a strategist commented. While the slipped deadline was a distraction, "I'm not reading too much into it, " he added.
Wind Hellas owner Weather Investments, which is controlled by Egyptian entrepreneur Naguib Sawiris, and creditors holding EUR1.22 billion in senior secured notes are among the bidders.
Hellas put itself up for sale in July after the Greek government introduced austerity measures in the wake of the country's sovereign debt crisis.
