What are your expectations for the regulation of digital assets?
Innovation always precedes regulation. So it’s no surprise that the crypto marketplace has grown dramatically in advance of regulation.
Regulation is always playing catch-up, and that’s what’s happening now.
We expect that over the next several years, regulations will be released, and the rules will become clear.
They’ll be regulations that both foster development and innovation while protecting consumers.
What role does crypto have in the metaverse?
McKinsey [& Co., management consultants] projects that by 2030, 70% of global GDP will be digital.
In the digital economy, you’ll be using digital assets to conduct financial transactions. They’ll consist of a combination of digital coins, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, and NFTs [nonfungible tokens].
 
AR: Chapter 45 asks a timely question: what should you do if the economy tanks? What should you do?
BF:
It’s natural to think that you shouldn’t invest when the economy is doing poorly. However, history shows that this can actually be the best time to invest. Investor sentiment is usually low when economic data looks bleak. That, in turn, leads to low asset prices. Buying those assets when they are out of favor has been a great move because asset prices gradually recover as the economy and investor sentiment improves.
AR: You have a number of pieces of advice for your younger self. Which one do you think is the most universal?
BF:
Saving is more important than investing. Focus your time on making more and spending less. Increasing your savings rate by a few hundred dollars a month can have a massive difference in your net worth later in life.
My returns improved dramatically once my mindset shifted from “build wealth quickly” to “build wealth slowly.”
 
 
 
The Vanguard scenario analysis, which is built on the Philadelphia Federal Reserve's 10-year projections for higher inflation and moderate to low returns for both stocks and bonds, forecasts the sustainable inflation-adjusted annual withdrawal rate to be between 2.8% and 3.3%.
