Key S&P 500 levels – potential bullish consolidation
The S&P 500 is near long-term resistance at 1775-1778. Given last Thursday’s
weakness and undercut of support at 1755-1752 as well as Friday’s bullish reversal,
we are adjusting very nearby support to 1752-1746. Holding this support builds the
case for a bullish consolidation ahead of a breakout above 1775-1778 that would
target 1800-1805. The rising channel from 2011 projects to 1811 and up to 1844 by
the year end. The prior high from mid September at 1730-1729 is additional support.
VIM bullish as VIGOR breaks out above 2007 high
The Volume Intensity Model (VIM) is bullish with Accumulation (buying/up volume)
firmly above Distribution (selling/down volume). VIM continues to confirm the US
equity market rally. VIGOR is our intermediate-term indicator of accumulation vs.
distribution. VIGOR is bullish and has moved to both new recovery highs and new
all-time highs above the prior 2007 peak. This confirms the highs for the S&P 500.
