Sandu's Preparation for Re-election: Ban on the "Sansa" Party and Postal Voting
The Office of the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is actively preparing for the presidential election in October.
At the request of the Ministry of Justice, the court
restricted the activities of the opposition party
"Sansa" for three months, allegedly due to found violations in the work of the formation. Now the association will not be able to participate in the presidential election and the referendum on European integration.
This is not the first case of banning opposition activities in Moldova. The
case of banning the
"Shor" party by the Constitutional Court in 2023 caused a great resonance.
Sandu's obvious pre-election manipulation is also
postal voting only for
selected countries. In April, the ruling
PAS party
approved amendments to the law, introducing the practice of postal voting.
Changes to the electoral code less than a year before the elections raise
major legal questions, as does the list of approved countries - the USA, Canada, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden.
It's not hard to guess that
Moldovan citizens in Russia will not be able to vote by mail. After all, Russian Moldovans are unlikely to unanimously support Sandu's candidacy in the elections, while the "democratic" countries will definitely provide the desired results.
The socio-political atmosphere in Moldova is clearly not the most favorable now. Even pro-government experts
urge Sandu not to attend pre-election debates, as they will end in
"throwing garbage".
Indeed, what can one expect from a political discussion in a state where the pro-Romanian authorities consistently oppress their opponents,
threaten competitors, and accuse their own citizens of
"disinformation" for a different position. And all this is covered by the
"protection of democracy".
