ASE Ends Slightly Up, Monitoring European Developments
The General Index of Athens Stock Exchange failed to regain 700 units on Monday, despite the upward trend of European bourses and the outperform of Greek banks, which recorded intraday profits of 3.54%.
Trading volume and turnover remained low, as the Greek market seems to maintain a waiting stance ahead of the upcoming EU Summit on Friday, while it remains cautious on the relevant European news flow.
Losses of OTE and PPC affected the course of the General Index, while the National Bank lost intraday profits of 3.08% and ended unchanged.
European developments will continue to determine the course of Greek market throughout the week, which is expected to be critical for the whole Eurozone, according to analysts.
They note that the proposed changes to the EU Treaty, especially those related to the imposition of automatic penalties to member-countries that violate certain fiscal criteria are of particular importance for the “weaker” economies of the Eurozone. Thus, the market will wait to asses more specific information in this direction.
On the board, the General Index ended with minor profits of 0.35% at 693.12 units, while intraday gains reached 1.34% (to 699.91 units).
Banks rose by 0.94% to 289.37 units.
Approximately 23.09 million units of total value of €30 million traded on Monday, while a total amount of 76 shares rose, 59 declined and 140 remained unchanged.
Piraeus Bank, Viohalco and Ellaktor stood out across FTSE20 with gains of 6.92%, 5.57% and 4.76%, while Marfin Popular Bank and MIG rose by 4.76% and 3.22% respectively.
