ASE finished the first week of 2012 in red
With total losses of 12% completed the first week of 2012 for the bank’s index in Athens Stock Exchange, which is still surrounded by the uncertainty of the ongoing negotiations for the PSI.
Apart from the domestic concerns about the banking industry, added the worries about the European banks, which received strong pressures exacerbating the downward mood on the Greek board.
The Greek board is no different that the prevailed picture the previous period, and the General Index has completed four consecutive declining sessions with total looses of 4,83%. On Thursday was falling up to 2,67% in intraday lows of 644,63 units, just a breath away of recording new 20yrs low.
"The different scenarios regarding Greek haircut, have increased the uncertainty once again in the banking industry," said the weekly bulletin of Beta Securities, stressing that "the domestic market sentiment is no different tha the pessimistic prevailing at the general economy”.
Beta also refers to the thin balance of political-economic level, in which they see high risk, noting that this is the main reason why the market seemed keen on pricing the adverse scenarios than to keep up with foreign markets.
On the board, the General Index closed down 2.22% at 647.58 points, moving into negative territory throughout most of the session.
The bank’s index, which was declining up to 3.95%, the losses amounted to 1.90% at 231.19 points. Among the banks, NBG’ title was found to decline up to 5.41% to 1.40 euros.
The trading volume stood at 18.08 million worth 21.22 million euros, while 87 shares closed down, 51 up and 137 remained unchanged.
On FTSE20, higher profits recorded by the shares of Eurobank and Alpha Bank, with an increase of 5.21% and 3.56% at 0.323 and 0.465 euro. Ellaktor and TT gained 2.61% and 2.24%, while PPC had smaller gains 0.27% to 3.75 euros.
On the contrary OPAP and Viohalko lost 5.73% and 5.00% at 6.25 and 2.85 euros, while 4.6% -4.7% fell FFgroup (7.37 euro), OTE (2.69 euros) and over 4% lost Titan to 11.38 euros.
Bank of Cyprus and MIG lost about 3,3%, while Marfin Popular Bank and NBG closed down 2.77% and 2.70% at 0.246 and 1.44 euros. Piraeus Bank, Hellenic Petroleum and Motor Oil also declined more than 2%, while the titles of Jumbo lost 1,62% to 3.65 euros, Mytilineos 0.69% to 2.86 euros and Coca-Cola 0, 38% to 13.00 euros.
