Outlook 2015
Fixed Income
"...In our baseline scenario, yields in the periphery would go up, but spreads would likely tighten to reflect the improvement in growth momentum (in our forecasts, this would be more the case for Spain and Portugal than for Italy) and hunt for yield. The room for tightening is much smaller compared to recent years as spreads are relatively close to, or even lower than, 2H10-1H11 levels (the period immediately before the sovereign crisis escalation).
In the first part of next year, the ECB’s dovish stance should continue to drive spread compression, with yield hunting being a key driver of investors’ decisions and macro fundamentals likely to play a secondary role. In the second part of the year, as the growth and inflation outlook improve, we expect macro fundamentals to become a more-relevant driver, although monetary policy will still be an important factor.
The path of spread tightening in 2015 is likely to be a bumpy one. In particular, 1Q15 is likely to be characterized by volatility in relation to the outcome of the Greek presidential elections.
Credit spreads have some room to go, and we like Portugal
Portugal seems especially well positioned as it still offers a high yield-pick-up vs. Italy and Spain, especially at the 5-10Y maturities, and has seen significant improvement in fundamentals."
Credit spreads have some room to go: e questo vale per l'area Euro come anche per i titoli in GBP.
