Sept. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Ireland’s Finance Minister Brian

Joaquin Almunia, the European Union’s antitrust commissioner, in
Brussels today, said Amelia Torres, a spokesman for Almunia. She
declined to comment further.
Minister in Brussels to discuss Anglo
The Finance Minister will meet the EU Commissioner who is responsible for the approval of the future plans for Anglo Irish Bank today.
Brian Lenihan is to ask Joaquín Almunia to wind down the bank over a 10-year period during his 2-day trip to Brussels for a meeting of EU Finance Ministers.
The Government had favoured splitting the bank into good and bad banks.
Newstalk Business Editor Conor Brophy says Minister Lenihan is keen to get a quick decision from Europe
“Uncertainty is a big problem here and that’s what you’re seeing on the markets as far as our bonds yields are concerned and the cost of borrowing to the State which has been going up and up and up – and is now at record levels in terms of the differential between ourselves and the Germans, the key benchmark there” he said.
“That is a problem – the fact that investors don’t know what the final bill will be, they don’t know what the Commission has decided”.
“Brian Lenihan at least wants one piece of uncertainty removed; he wants the Commission to say ‘yay’ or ‘nay’ to the restructuring plan and if they say ‘nay’ to at least say what they want do instead” he added.
