LISBON, April 17 (Reuters) - Portugal Telecom's (PTC.LS) operating revenues grew in the first quarter, including in the fixed-line segment, in spite of the adverse economic environment, Chief Executive Zeinal Bava said.
"In the first quarter we confirmed the trend of the fourth quarter in fixed lines and in mobile too," Bava said late on Thursday during an industry event without providing the exact numbers.
In the last quarter of 2008, fixed-line revenues rose 2 percent to 495 million euros ($648.9 million) and those in PT's mobile phone unit TMN edged up 0.1 percent to 413 million euros.
Bava said that sales in broadband and paid TV services also presented positive numbers. The company is scheduled to announce its first-quarter earnings on May 7.
The chief executive said PT was planning to invest heavily in the development of its fiber network to help grow the pay TV business, but it was still awaiting the final decision from the Anacom regulator on new networks.
PT stock was up 0.3 percent at 6.289 euros in early trade, while the broader market in Lisbon was 1.2 percent stronger. ($1=.7628 EURO) (Reporting by Elisabete Tavares, writing by Andrei Khalip; editing by Simon Jessop)
